I think Quake is more rooted in eldritch aesthetics than Quake II's Strogg stuff, but I find this game good for what it is.
Quake 4 is awful, should have been named something else. It has little gameplay and atmosphere of the previous 3 Quake titles. I have no doubt ID software was sold off because of this embarrassment.
Doom 3 but if it was an actual action game very very peak
The closest game I can compare it to is Doom 3. It uses similar graphics and assets, and is a high contrast and dark FPS game. The guns are fun, the vibe is edgy, and the pacing is a little slow with all the dialogue....

It's ok. The single player is a pretty mediocre and slow-paced experience. The set pieces are much better than other quake games, but pretty much everything else suffers. However, it's pretty cheap and comes in a bund...

It's ok. The single player is a pretty mediocre and slow-paced experience. The set pieces are much better than other quake games, but pretty much everything else suffers. However, it's pretty cheap and comes in a bundle with all the other quake games, so it's worth the short playtime. Would be interesting to see a remaster of this game.
