The original R-Type Tactics I and II turned me into the thinking man I am today. That being said it can get monotonous at times and the Tactics II portion can be straight up sadistic; you will need to save scum for at least one mission in the first half of the human campaign of T2. If you're up for the challenge, or like space ships, give it a shot.

Quite the idea to reinvent the iconic arcade shoot 'em up franchise into a turn-based strategy game, and it works well too. It is slower paced than most other games of this genre I've played, there's more variables to keep track of than most, such as unit fuel consumption, charge attacks (both offensive and defensive) and such. It's definitely not as whiz-bang, instant gratification-providing as, say, [i]Super Robot Wars[/i]. But it certainly is a treat for [i]R-Type[/i] nerds.
