We are only a couple of weeks away from releasing Endless Legend 2 into 1.0! We are super excited for players to experience everything we have prepared for this special moment.
Before that, we wanted to take a moment to look back on this year of Early Access. It has been great getting closer to the community, gathering your feedback and ideas, and seeing what could be done to make the game even better!
To reflect on that journey, we have prepared a short video:
Where are we?
Before getting into the details of Early Access, we wanted to take a moment to share where we stand today. Yesterday we released our latest update, The Architects, before entering into "1.0 mindset"
When will we be able to see more about Rogue Factions?
Well... actually... now that you ask, I'd like to let you know that we've reached out to several content creators, and they will soon be sharing gameplay featuring the new playable factions!
And don't worry, we'll also be releasing additional information next week to explain in more detail how these new factions will play.
1 Year of Early Access
There have been 59 updates, which is huge! It’s almost 5 updates per month 😱
Join me on this little adventure as we look back at some of the biggest changes we've made during that period, many of which were directly shaped by community feedback. Thank you! ✨
With every update, we've also created a shorter YouTube video summarizing the key changes for those who are interested.
I'm also curious to hear your feedback on this format (Example of Retold Tales Update), as it's something we're currently experimenting with for Endless Legend 2.
Into Battle
This was our first major update since the beginning of Early Access! In addition to a large number of bug fixes, the team completed a full balance pass on all military units in the game.
We also introduced a new battle rule, Encirclement, which expanded tactical possibilities by making flanking and surrounding enemy units even more rewarding. Additionally, we decided to tone down the Doomwraiths a little, as they were perhaps... just a bit too strong 🤣
Clearing Skies
This update brought 2 important changes for players: We re-did the main HUD, making it more cohesive, less crowded and overall, more polished.
We also decided to keep expanding the military part, adding the Zone of Control, which is our way to reduce the frustration of units rushing to their backline with "nothing that restricts them".
The Gathering
Here’s our first MAJOR UPDATE for the game, The Gathering. The long-awaited Multiplayer arrived to the game 🙏 But not only that, here we implemented a new construction flow that was way more intuitive than before and we continued to work on the asymmetry of factions and decided to “push hard” how the Necrophage worked.
Too many things to say about this update;
We also started introducing some changes for the narrative of the game (an important topic), improved diplomacy, and the added different game speeds!
Steady Tides
After the big update we went a bit more "chill", but nevertheless including great additions! We reworked Militia, moving from being a militia for the whole city to being more territory based, which encouraged players to more carefully plan the defenses of those territories they were more invested in. We continued the work around "battles" and we made an overhaul of the skills and scaling on all the heroes.
Echoes of Creation
The arrival of spring brought our second Major Update for the game 🌷
It was the time for the Custom Factions, a legacy element we have been including in previous ENDLESS games. For those that have less experience, we could summarize it as a "cocktail process" in which players can design their desired faction based on all the traits, affinities, units, populations, and more, available in the game!
Apart from that, we introduced a new event: the Endless Monsoon, which will "shake Saiadha", for some reasons I won't spoil you, but will make the world more and more dangerous!
We took the opportunity to bring more improvements to city planning with the district view, pins to build extractors and more!
Voice of the People
Voice of the people brought the rework the team made to push the asymmetry for the Kin of Sheredyn farther. The faction was good at many things but not very good at having different "paths to be played" and now you can have a couple of different playstyles available within the faction. Nice to remember that the Kin are the most played faction, even after removing the tutorial!
The team also introduced huge changes to how Public Opinion worked in the game! Diplomacy is always a topic that players want to see improve, and the changes make it a bit more "realistic" and engaging when played! We introduced a badge system that represents a pattern of behavior from players that has a direct impact on the relationship between factions.
Stand United
We introduced Controller support and got the Steam Deck Verified ✅
But that was not all: we made big big changes to the district cost, that was a topic around the community. We "separate" districts between Basics and Elite, which behave way different in the scaling of costs (elite being the one that scale quicker), but also, we made sure that the cost of the rest of the districts are (almost) not linked to the amount of total district but more to "how much of X district you built".
On the combat topic, we introduced the long-awaited retaliation! So, units will strike back once, when engaged in melee.
Retold Tales
Hear me out, this is THE UPDATE! It is our most awaited update, and not only internally!
Here we introduced the big changes to how we display narration in the game! It was a big concern around the community, but the changes more into the "el1 style" were really appreciated! Now narrative events have a nice art displayed, to help you with immersion, and we reduced the number of clicks players needed to use!
We also did a retake on the Kin of Sheredyn and the Necrophages quests, making sure the narration was more in line, in terms of tone & personality, with each of the factions.
Took the opportunity of these big changes to start introducing more 2D art into the game, specifically for all major factions and the minor factions.
Summer Solstice
With the summer “embracing us” 🔥, and more people within the team taking some days to disconnect + get energy for the ending race to 1.0, we released an interesting update! We introduced the changes we made to the awakening quest, moving from a generic one to a more personal one per faction, as not all of the major factions react the same way to what is happening on Saiadha!
But also, we started introducing asymmetry (to some extent of course) to all the minor factions! They are a crucial part of the game and players should not feel they are just generic ones. Now some of the factions can be crucial depending on the playstyle of the players, some of them more focused on war, while others lean more into expansion or economy development.
The Architects
Our latest update before the 1.0 release! The big focus of the team was on fixing as many bugs as possible but that did not stop them from introducing new elements! We introduced modding support for the game on Steam (you can check the Steam Workshop), and Derek, our Game Director, made a nice guide for those players interested in creating something new!
Now to 1.0
As we're getting closer to release, we continue to focus on fixing bugs, because we want your experience with the full release of the game (and the new factions) to be as smooth and polished as possible. Thank you everybody who has been submitting and upvoting bug reports. We're taking another look over them and will reply to any report with more than 5 upvotes. If you want to make sure we didn't miss something, upvote the reports on Amplifiers.
