FM27 – Character & Accessibility - FAQs

Q: Across these topics for FM27, what were the main goals, changes and additions that the Sports Interactive team looked to address?

A: Combining community feedback and internal reviews, our key goals in these areas of FM27 were:

  • Take steps forward in the visual look and presentation of newgens

  • Introduce more customisation options for players when creating their manager

  • Introduce an option for managers using a wheelchair, which is represented throughout the game, including in match day cutscenes

Q: What work has gone into improving the look of newgens in FM27?

A: More detail and variation in skin, colourisation, hair, and overall presentation has been added to newgens. You will also see more variation between newgens in facial expressions and body language to give them more individuality and character in how they look across the game. This includes adjustments in camera and lighting placement for their images.

Q: What new options and improvements are there to manager creation?

A: The previous changes shown around player models, hair movement, and more all carry over into the creation and actions of a manager in FM27, giving you greater control over their look, and bringing more personality into how they appear and interact in the game. When creating your manager, you’ll find new options for body morphs, ethnicity, skin features and facial features. Additional options for hair and facial hair are also available, along with more clothing to choose from. This includes hats; a long-requested addition for the game. Other additional clothing items can be selected, such as jumpers, scarves and gloves. The custom colour picker tool is also available, to give you deeper customisation in your look.

Within the manager creator tools is the ability to set up character as a wheelchair user. The wheelchair featured in-game is electric-powered. If you select the wheelchair option, this change will be visible in multiple areas of the game, including the start screen and on the touchline. Also, if you win a trophy with your team, the subsequent trophy lift cutscene will feature an on-pitch plinth adapted to ensure it is accessible.

Q: What additional accessibility options are available in FM27?

A: Adding to the series’ existing options, accessibility features in FM27 now include larger font sizes and the ability to remove certain UI animations. All accessibility options are available in a dedicated section of the Preferences menu, including a colour-blind mode and showing commentary text in black and white, instead of team colours.

The Preferences menu also includes the additional layout options previously shown, where you can expand or condense the amount of information on screen. These options are now Small, Medium and Large, and are available when using a monitor at 1440p (QHD) resolution or above.

Q: Are the gameplay images shown in the supporting blog post representative of what will be in FM27 on launch?

A: The gameplay shown is from a development build of the game, meaning it is subject to change before release. Additional work will be focused on further visual optimisation and incorporating feedback from recent user testing. This build contains information that is still under approval process by right holders and may contain data that does not, at this time, accurately reflect real world data.

Q: Is there more to come for pre-launch looks at FM27 gameplay and changes?

A: Yes. We will shortly be releasing an additional blog post sharing details on various other areas of FM27, including the 2D match engine, In-Game Editor, and wider quality-of-life improvements.
