The most fun I've had unlocking content through challenges since the good ol' days. I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews and chose my own timeline.

I really disliked this. The Timelines missions felt like an endless chore with time gated missions as well. It was further quite buggy. Any additional quest chain in the normal "sandbox" game mode that unlockes ships ...

Actively devalues the rest of the game by picking individual systems, like mining or trading, and recontextualizing them as a series of scored, timed missions with a bit of story wrapping. As it turns out, these systems are not fun outside of the context of all the other systems interacting with them and that uncomfortable reality continues to color their experience once returning to the main game.

I know most people dislike this DLC, but I have to give it credit for finally getting me over the hump where the game goes from overwhelming and complicated to one of my all-time favorite games. I've owned X3 and X4 since their respective launches and tried countless times to get into them. Timelines was the DLC that finally did it for me, and now I'm a fan for life.
