Hey everyone!
Today, we’re excited to release our first content update since the launch of The Broken Beyond expansion! This update introduces the brand-new Fuel Pump block, an additional level for The Broken Beyond campaign, a larger Multiverse, Mac support for The Broken Beyond Expansion and a range of improvements & fixes thanks to community feedback.
Fuel Pump Block
Alongside our 13 other space-themed blocks, we’ve added the brand-new Fuel Pump block for all your fuel-management needs.
This new block allows you to pump fuel between two separate fuel-storage systems. It can also automatically maintain a set fuel level within a system, ensuring your machines always have the fuel they need to keep running. Use it to create automated refueling stations, balance fuel across multiple tanks or build more complex fuel networks for your spacecraft and other creations.
New Campaign Level - Shattered Citadel (Zone 79)
Simulating a physics-heavy level of this scale, while ensuring it remained both stable and fun to play, proved far more challenging than we initially anticipated. Unfortunately, this meant we had to ship The Broken Beyond without it. Since then, we’ve continued refining the level, and we’re finally ready to bring it back!
In The Shattered Citadel, you’ll race through the crumbling remains of an ancient cathedral suspended around a black hole. Destroy towering statues, tear the structure apart and watch as entire sections of the ruins tumble into the abyss below.
Massive Increase to Multiverse Level Size
This update dramatically expands the maximum map size available in Multiverse. Multiverse maps including our new space one can now span an enormous 16 km × 8 km × 16 km, up from the previous limit of just 2 km × 2 km × 2 km.
That’s 64 times more horizontal space and 256 times the total playable volume, giving players far more room to build, experiment and play together together. This is a huge expansion of what’s possible in Multiverse and we can’t wait to see how players use all that extra space.
Mac Support - The Broken Beyond expansion
We’re pleased to announce that The Broken Beyond is now fully supported on Mac. We sincerely apologize for the delay and for not communicating the situation more clearly from the beginning.
Ahead of the expansion’s launch, we encountered serious shader-related issues that caused the Mac version to crash immediately. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to identify the root cause and implement a reliable fix in time for release. We initially hoped to find a workaround shortly after launch, but as the investigation continued, we made the difficult decision to remove Mac support from the store listing until we could be confident that the expansion would run properly.
Unfortunately, resolving these issues required considerably more time and effort than we anticipated. In hindsight, we should have been more transparent about the problems we were facing and kept Mac players better informed throughout the process. We’re sorry for leaving you waiting without a clear explanation.
For those interested in the technical side, the shader problems were connected to Apple’s ongoing transition away from several long-established architectural and graphics standards. Adapting games to these changes can introduce significant compatibility challenges, and we expect maintaining Mac support to become increasingly difficult for developers in the future. It has been an extremely frustrating situation to navigate.
Thank you to every Mac player who waited patiently while we worked through these issues. We truly appreciate your understanding and we’re relieved to finally welcome you into The Broken Beyond!
We hope you enjoy everything this update brings to Besiege. Your creativity continues to inspire us and we’re incredibly grateful to all of you who continue to play, create and be part of the Besiege community.
Cheers,
Sam
