We are currently working on the Berlin-Charlottenburg DLC for The Bus, which is planned to feature Lines 109 and 309. In this DevLog, we are sharing several screenshots showing how the new routes are being created step by step.

Building the Basic Road Network
The process begins by placing templates and splines along the available map data for Berlin. This allows the individual streets to be traced precisely and prepared for the next stages of development.
The templates are then replaced with the required spline variants. This makes it possible to create different sidewalks, road edges and surrounding areas to match each location.
Road Markings and Surfaces
Once the road layout is in place, markings are added based on the available reference material. These include turning arrows, traffic lanes and boundary lines.
The road surfaces and larger areas that cannot be created entirely with splines are filled using polygons. The appropriate road materials are then assigned to them.
AI Traffic
Once the basic road network is complete, the green AI lanes are added. These define the paths used by AI traffic and control how vehicles behave.
Several parameters are configured during this step, including permitted vehicle types, speeds, turning behavior, right-of-way rules and traffic density. This gradually prepares the road network for active traffic.
Traffic Lights and Traffic Flow
The traffic lights are placed next, followed by the setup of their individual signal phases. These phases must be coordinated so that intersections function correctly and traffic can move smoothly.
Bus Stops and Route Integration
Finally, the bus stops are set up with their respective names and line assignments. This allows them to be recognized correctly by the route planner.
Dedicated AI lanes are then used to connect the bus stops to the road network. This creates the technical foundation required for Lines 109 and 309 to operate through Berlin.
