I played the old games on PC when I was a kid in the 90's. This game updates a lot of stuff so it is still functional. The graphics are decent, and the resolution has been updated to support newer monitors. If you want to try an unique experience blending RTS and FPS this is it.

All in all, for players starting out, easy difficulty is your best bet unless you already have experience with Battlezone 98... But even then, you better get good with mortar spam.
