Played this at launch in 2002, played with randoms online, friends, family, and it has a consistently great story. The mechanics for classic DnD are wonderful, world building was way ahead of its time, no microtransac...
Campaigns are just okay, the persistent roleplay words are where its at, things that exist nowhere else in the way they do here.
20 years later and I still have dreams where I'm playing this game. Every time, it's a good dream.
The OG campaign and DLCs still hold up but anyone familiar with 3.5 will find them overly easy so keep that in mind. The real treasure is 20+ years of community content. The enhanced edition and premium modules will...

Despite being an old game, Neverwinter Nights is still a good game. The original campaign is decent, but the expansions almost made me stop playing. Shadows of Undrentide can be frustrating, while Hordes of the Underdark starts well, but the difficulty increases too much during the final act. The best thing about the game is its longevity, since you can install a large number of community-created modules and continue enjoying new adventures.

Played this at launch in 2002, played with randoms online, friends, family, and it has a consistently great story. The mechanics for classic DnD are wonderful, world building was way ahead of its time, no microtransactions to play any part of this little corner of the Faerun universe. Just a bunch of folks working on an excellent game, story, and immersive atmosphere with whatever they had at the time.

The OG campaign and DLCs still hold up but anyone familiar with 3.5 will find them overly easy so keep that in mind. The real treasure is 20+ years of community content. The enhanced edition and premium modules will include a lot of the most popular ones except for Swordflight which you will need to grab off of the neverwinter vault. I waited far too long just to buy it during a sale but I can confidently say it's worth the money at full price.
